On Tuesday, August 30th, numerous local bar associations joined to discuss the current issues of racial injustice in our country, including police misconduct, targeting of Muslims, and the potential “wall” to be built between the U.S.A. and Mexico. BWL co-sponsored this event with Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA), Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance (APAWLA), Douglas/Hicks Law, Iranian American Bar Association (IABA), John M. Langston Bar Association (Langston), Latina Lawyers Bar Association (LLBA), LGBT Bar Association of Los Angeles, Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), Multicultural Bar Alliance, and Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (WLALA). The panelists included Professor Jody Armour (USC Law), Carl Douglas (Douglas/Hicks Law), Sonia Mercado (Law Offices of Sonia Mercado), and Professor John Tehranian (Southwestern). The discussion was timely, informative and inspirational. To have so many multicultural bar associations to join in this discussion was important and we hope to do another joint bar association meeting/presentation in the fall of 2016.
