On March 22, 2017, BWL held its March meeting at the City Club in DTLA. Bergman Dacey Goldsmith, a longtime BWL sponsor and supporter, sponsored the meeting and conducted a Continuing Legal Education program focused on California’s Fair Pay Act. BDG partner Michele Goldsmith enlightened our membership about the basic rules governing pay equity in the State of California. Because many states are adopting new rules regarding pay equity and salary history inquiries by employers, this is certainly a hot topic.
Michele shared statistics about discrepancies in pay between men and women, both in our state and nationwide. She also explained the difference between the new law, which was enacted in 2016, and the previous law (California Equal Pay Act) and how it affects us both as employers and employees. She also gave prizes to those teams who had the closest answers on her polls about pay equity statistics and the statute. With good food, an informative presentation and a lively discussion, our March meeting was a rousing success!
