A Discussion on the Trending Use of Video Evidence in Courtroom Battles
On November 17, 2016, BWL held its November general meeting and hosted an interactive panel discussion entitled Body Cameras, Smartphones, and Video: a discussion on the trending use of video evidence in courtroom battles. The panel was moderated by Candace Neal, Associate, Reed Smith LLP. Panelists included the Honorable Patricia Titus, Los Angeles Superior Court, Inglewood; Justin Sanders, Partner, Sanders Roberts & Jewett LLP; and Jamon Hicks, Partner, Douglas Hicks Law Firm. The panelists and attendees discussed issues surrounding the admissibility and exclusion of video evidence, procedural issues, and dealing with limitations and objections. We also watched the NPR video from a body camera involving an altercation between police officers and a “suspect” and discussed the implications of what was shown. This MCLE event was held in the Burns Lounge of Loyola Law School.
